In a shocking incident, Minnesota lawmakers Melissa Hortman and John Hoffman were targeted in a politically motivated attack early Saturday morning. Authorities have identified Vance Luther Boelter as the prime suspect, though official confirmation is still pending.

What Happened?

According to reports, Boelter allegedly posed as a police officer before carrying out the attacks. The shootings occurred at the homes of Senator John Hoffman and Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman in Champlin and Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

  • Senator John Hoffman and his wife were shot multiple times but survived after undergoing emergency surgery.

  • Melissa Hortman and her husband were fatally shot in their home.

Governor Tim Walz has condemned the attack, calling it a “politically motivated assassination”.

Who is Vance Luther Boelter?

Boelter, 57, previously served under Democratic governors Mark Dayton and Tim Walz on the Governor’s Workforce Development Board. Investigators suspect political motives, as materials recovered from his vehicle included a manifesto and a list of other politicians.

Authorities believe Boelter remains at large, and a statewide manhunt is underway.
